1. Hockey World Cup 2023 – India beats Spain
The opening day of the Hockey World Cup saw India take on Spain in what was a thrilling encounter. India were the better side for much of the game and eventually ran out 2-0 winners. This was a huge win for India and will give them a lot of confidence going into the rest of the tournament.
It was a very even start to the game with both sides having good possession and chances. India took the lead in the 15th minute through a great strike from Sardar Singh. Spain tried to hit back immediately but were unable to create any clear-cut chances.
In the second half, India continued to control the game and eventually doubled their lead in the 55th minute. This was a brilliant team performance from India and they will be very pleased with the way they played.
This win puts India in a great position to progress to the knockout stages of the tournament. They will next face England on Sunday in what will be another tough game.
2. Hockey World Cup 2023 – England and Australia win opening fixtures
The 2023 Hockey World Cup will be the 15th edition of the Hockey World Cup, the quadrennial world championship for men’s national field hockey teams organized by the International Hockey Federation (FIH). It will be held from 13 to 29 January 2023, in India.
This will be the second time that India will host the tournament, after the 1982 edition. The 2022 Women’s Hockey World Cup will be held in Spain from 30 July to 15 August 2022.
England and Australia started their campaigns with wins in the opening fixtures of the Hockey World Cup 2023.
England beat Chile 3-0 in their opening match, with goals from Ashley Jackson, Jofra Archer and Phil Roper.
Australia, meanwhile, beat Malaysia 2-0, with goals from Blake Govers and Jeremy Hayward.
In other matches, India beat Spain 2-0, Argentina beat New Zealand 3-1 and Belgium beat Canada 2-1.
3. Hockey World Cup 2023 – Argentina win opening fixture
The 2023 FIH Men’s World Cup will be the 16th edition of the FIH Men’s World Cup, the quadrennial world championship for men’s national field hockey teams organized by the International Hockey Federation (FIH). It will be held from 13 to 29 January 2023, in and around Bhubaneswar, India.
This will be the second time that the Men’s World Cup will be held in India, after the 1982 edition in Mumbai. India was originally awarded the tournament in 2015, but the FIH decided to award the 2021 Women’s World Cup to India instead, and pushed back the men’s event to 2023.
A total of 16 teams will compete in the tournament. The hosts India will be joined by the seven other teams that qualified through the 2018–19 FIH Hockey World League Semifinals, as well as the four continental champions.
The tournament will be played across eight venues in and around Bhubaneswar: the Kalinga Stadium, the Biju Patnaik Hockey Stadium, the Mahalaxmi Hockey Stadium, the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium, the Barabati Stadium, the Bhubaneswar Hockey Stadium, the Cuttack Hockey Stadium, and the Rourkela Hockey Stadium.
The opening fixture of the tournament will see India take on South Africa at the Kalinga Stadium, with the final taking place at the same venue on 29 January.

The 2023 Hockey World Cup is the 14th edition of the Hockey World Cup, the quadrennial world championship for men’s national field hockey teams organized by the International Hockey Federation (FIH). It will be held from 13 to 29 January 2023, at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, India.
This will be the second time that the tournament will be held in India, after the 1982 edition in Mumbai. The 2023 edition will also be the first Hockey World Cup to feature 16 teams, after the FIH increased the number of teams from 14 to 16 in October 2019.

Australia then retook the lead through a penalty corner from Blake Govers, before extending their lead through a penalty corner from Matt Goss.
4. Argentina also got their World Cup campaign off to a winning start, beating South Africa 2-0. Goals from Gonzalo Peillat and Lucas Vila ensured Argentina got off to a winning start.
